I just got a boat- it has been to many years without one. I have never fished old hickory, but I picked up one of those lake maps and have read on some forums the past few days. I was wondering if someone could tell me what bass and crappie are hitting on and depths... you don't have to divulge locations
also, what is the lake like, after all the flooding at the beginning of the month. Is there lots of trash and places to avoid for fear of slapping a submerged log or debris?

I have not been out on the lake in a few months, but I heard that lake has debris everywhere. I would be very careful and take your time when your out there.

We went out on Old Hickory this weekend and it was clear. NO logs and caught 16 largemouth with 2 of those being keepers.

Frogs, tequila sunrise worms. 3 to 4 ft of water around weeds.

i've fished Old Hickory several times over the last three weeks. staying in the lower end of the lake (below Drakes Creek). the bass are all over the place. i was graphing bait on almost every ledge that i have waypoints marked on in the 10-15 foot range. unfortunately, bait is easy to find, the bass are a little harder. i've caught several nice largemouth on deeper ledges (15-20ft) on a crankbait as well as in weeds (water willows) in 1ft on crankbaits. also caught a couple of smallmouth on some flats early in the morning on crankbaits. perhaps, i could sum it up by saying, fish crankbaits at all depths. you're bound to roll up on some fish. otherwise, 10" worm is never a bad choice. i've also had success in the past with junk fishing the coves and water willows with jigs, shakey heads, senko's and other soft plastics.
as Brian mentioned. be careful of debris. when we were out a couple weeks ago, there was so much stuff piled up on the rayon city side of the lake, it was basically unfishable, the biggest thing i saw was a railroad tie (full length). things were a lot clearer yesterday, but i still saw a couple of good size logs in places you wouldn't expect. keep your eyes on the water as well as your graph.
